Archer Daniels Midland Co., Decatur, Ill., announces that its UK subsidiary, Pura Food Ltd., will purchase Van den Bergh Oils, Essex, United Kingdom. Van den Bergh Oils, a subsidiary of Unilever Bestfoods UK Ltd., supplies refined oils and fats to both Unilever Bestfoods' group companies and other UK food manufacturers. The business employs about 140 people.

In another announcement, ADM, in conjunction with several member companies of American International Group Inc., has developed a customized insurance program for its grain elevator customers. "We recognized that obtaining adequate coverage at a reasonable premium in this difficult insurance market has become an issue for many of our grain elevator customers," says Lew Batchelder, senior vice president of ADM Grain and Transportation. The program includes property, liability, automobile, workers' compensation and umbrella coverage, as well as a special retirement savings program option. Environmental coverage and an accidental death and dismemberment benefit are customized enhancements built into each customer's program.
