 Gervais of Ottawa as of June 30, 2007. The archbishop was previously bishop of Sault Ste. Marie Sault Sainte Marie — pronounced "Soo Saint Marie" (IPA /su seɪnt məˈɹi/) — is the name of two cities on the Saint Marys River, which forms part of the boundary between the United States and Canada. , and was the president of the Canadian Canadian (kənā`dēən), river, 906 mi (1,458 km) long, rising in NE New Mexico. and flowing E across N Texas and central Oklahoma into the Arkansas River in E Oklahoma.  Conference of Catholic Bishops between 1991 and 1993. In 2005 he was in the news because one of the Cathedral's parishioners, Prime Minister Paul Martin, had earlier publicly declared that on the matter of same-sex "marriage" he would set the Canadian Charter of Rights above the teaching of the Church. The Archbishop still accepted him as "a faithful" parishioner.
