Archangel Diamond Upgrades Results on Hole 49 and Issues Provisional Results for Hole 48, Verkhotina.VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 17, 1996-- ARCHANGEL archangel, in religion archangel (ärk`ānjəl), chief angel. They are four to seven in number. Sometimes specific functions are ascribed to them. The four best known in Christian tradition are Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel. DIAMOND CO (VSE See DOS/VSE. "There is no doubt that with these new results Pipe 441 has developed into a major diamond discovery, possibly as important as the giant Lomonosova deposit 30km away. With Pipe 441 and the US$35 billion Lomonosova deposit, the Arkhangel'sk Diamond Province has now been established as the most important new gem diamond district in the world," -- Archangel Diamond Corporation's Chief Geologist, Roy Spencer

Archangel Diamond Corporation is pleased to announce the upgraded final results from Pipe 441, Verkhotina Project, NW Russia, hole 49; provisional results from hole 48; and progress on holes 41 and 46. --Final results from hole 49 have been upgraded, showing grades of 251 carat/100t(1) in the diatreme diatreme A volcanic pipe, filled with breccia, formed by a subterranean gaseous explosion. See illustration at batholith. and 73 carat/100t in the crater crater, circular, bowl-shaped depression on the earth's surface. (For a discussion of lunar craters, see moon.) Complex craters have a raised central peak surrounded by a trough and a fractured rim. facies facies /fa·ci·es/ (fa´she-ez) pl. fa´cies [L.] 1. the face. 2. surface; the outer aspect of a body part or organ. 3. expression (1). (provisional results previously announced September 23rd were 196 carat/100t and 75 carat/100t). --Provisional results from hole 48 give grades of 159 carat/100t in the diatreme and 28 carat/100t in the crater facies. --From the holes drilled to date into Pipe 441, on average the crater facies is intersected at 73m and the diatreme at 190m from hole collar. The average grade of the diatreme is approximately 190 carat/100t (from 2.7t of sample). The average grade of the crater facies is 30 carat/100t (from 4.0t sample), giving an overall grade of 94 carat/100t. --Drilling on Hole 46 was recently stopped in kimberlite kimberlite: see diamond. kimberlite or blue ground Dark, heavy, often fragmented igneous rock that may contain diamonds in the rock matrix. at 301m; the pipe remains open to the west -- indicating that the pipe is in excess of 8 hectares. --Hole 41 intersected crater facies at 62m, but failed to intersect In a relational database, to match two files and produce a third file with records that are common in both. For example, intersecting an American file and a programmer file would yield American programmers. the diatreme, instead entering country rock at 186m. --The extent of the crater facies remains open in all directions bar one hole (hole 51) which failed to intersect it. -0-
