Archangel Diamond Corporation Announces Appointment of Douglas R. Cook to Board of Directors.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 6, 1996-- Archangel Diamond Co. (VSE AAD.) Archangel Diamond Corporation (VSE: AAD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Douglas R. Cook as a Director and as Chairman of the newly-formed Technical Committee.

Mr. Cook brings to Archangel Diamond Corporation a wealth of knowledge and experience in the international mining business that he acquired while holding senior technical and management positions with leading mining organizations such as Freeport Minerals and the Freeport Exploration Company, Exxon, Kennecott Copper Corporation and Consolidated African Selection Trust Ltd. He was involved in and responsible for the identification, establishment and on-going management of worldwide exploration and production programs for a number of world-class diamond, precious and base metal mining projects.

Mr. Cook, a mining engineer and geologist received a D.Sc. degree in Mining Geology from the Colorado School of Mines; he is presently Chairman of Atlas Corporation and a Director of Pegasus Gold Corporation.

To confirm the significance of Pipe 441 on the Company's Verkhotina tenement in NW Russia, Archangel Diamond Corporation is planning a 100-200 ton bulk sampling program starting in early 1997. The appointment of Mr. Cook strengthens the technical and industry experience of the management team as it undertakes this technically demanding effort.
