Archaeology of Elegance, 1980-1999: 20 years of fashion photography; Deichtorhallen. (Hamburg).
Whether portraying the chic shiver of a heroin fix, the rebel
spirit of trashy punk, or the digital perfection of cyberbabes, fashion
photographers have focused their lenses on lifestyle for the last two
decades and helped our fantasies enter the slippages between socially
prescribed roles. Featuring some seventy-five lesser-known images by
industry leaders (Mark Borthwick, Inez van Lamsweerde, Terry Richardson,
Juergen Teller, Ellen von Unwerth), this exhibition raises the question
of whether curators Marion De Beaupre and Stephane Baumet will unearth
an ultimately sartorial meaning behind our visual culture. Apr. 26-Aug.
25; Centre Georges Pompidou, fall 2002.
