The authors (U. of Melbourne, Australia) began excavation of the complex sites located in Bayburt, Turkey (with finds dating from the Late Chalcolithic to the Ottoman period) in 1988 and have previously published two volumes on their finds. The chapters of this volume provide in-depth summaries of the excavation, including an essay on the historical geography; a lengthy discussion of the textual sources about Bayburt and neighboring neigh·bor
