Arch Communications had a critical time-to-market need for delivering its applications by this fall. The company chose jBusiness because Novera's combination of products, services and established partnerships are critical in order to meet the ambitious deployment schedule. In addition, jBusiness provides Arch with the ability to develop, deploy, and manage enterprise-Java applications and distributed objects Software modules that are designed to work together but reside in multiple computer systems in a private network or on the global Internet. A program in one machine sends a message to an object in a remote machine to perform some processing. . The management functionality was a major consideration due to the fact that Arch Communications will be deploying applications to more than 200 locations and 3,000 end-users nationwide.

"We're confident that Novera's strong vision, technology and track record will deliver on our goal of providing a whole new level of customer service," says Peter Barnett, vice president of IS, Arch Communications. Dwayne Burberry, Arch Communications' director of IS also comments, "jBusiness addresses our biggest challenges y a rigorous deployment schedule, and code distribution to remote locations. The jBusiness product line allows our internal developers to focus their attention on Arch-specific business logic instead of non-proprietary subjects such as networking, object-relational mapping See O-R mapping. , and user authentication See authentication. ."

Arch Communications is using Novera's jBusiness development environment on NT and deploying on Sun Solaris. The subsystems will integrate with an Informix database. The project will involve more than 200,000 lines of code The statements and instructions that a programmer writes when creating a program. One line of this "source code" may generate one machine instruction or several depending on the programming language. A line of code in assembly language is typically turned into one machine instruction.  with object/relational mapping. Initial roll out is scheduled for September 1998.

"The fact that Novera's jBusiness is now the foundation for the two largest enterprise-Java projects is very exciting," says David Butler, vice president of marketing, Novera Software. "Novera is bringing a combination of Java products and services to the table that are enabling enterprise organizations the ability to build and deploy business-critical applications quickly and easily. Novera's jBusiness is delivering on all fronts, in addition to providing the management capabilities that are absolutely critical as Arch deploys to thousands of end-users at locations throughout the country."
