FSU Leverages Mobile Technology to Oversee Distributed Medical Program

ArcStream Solutions, a wireless systems integration firm, announced today that it has deployed a web and mobile-based Clinical Data Collection System (CDCS) for Florida State University (FSU) College of Medicine. The CDCS is designed to provide an easy and efficient way for school administrators to oversee the quality of education that FSU College of Medicine's students receive. Students enter patient encounter data and instructor evaluations into their mobile device or web portal and the administration can then access this information to ensure their students are getting a uniform and complete clinical education.

Florida State University College of Medicine engaged ArcStream to develop the CDCS because they needed a way to stay in close contact with their students, the majority of whom go on rotations in geographically remote parts of the state, away from the main medical campus. With the CDCS, students enter patient encounter data into their mobile devices or web portals and the administration can run reports to make certain the students are seeing the right types and numbers of procedures. These reports can then be used to help automate accreditation reporting. School administrators also use the CDCS to collect preceptor information. Students are required to fill out web-based evaluation surveys of preceptors, the physicians overseeing their training, which quickly provide the administration with valuable feedback pertaining to individual instructors. This real-time data on patient encounters and preceptor quality enables the administration to quickly react to their students' educational needs, despite their distance.
