ArcSoft, Inc., the leading provider of digital imaging software, today announced its entree into the DVD playback market with an easy-to-use, high-quality, full-featured DVD playback technology for desktop and notebook PCs.

Designed for hardware OEMs seeking to integrate the home-theater experience into PCs and other Windows(R)-based devices, ArcSoft's DVD playback technology provides the same capabilities as a stand-alone DVD player A stand-alone device that plays DVDs. It contains a DVD drive and the electronics to decode the digital video. The device may play only manufactured DVDs, or it may be able to play DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs. DVD players are cabled to a TV or home theater system for display. . It offers multiple playback modes (normal, letterboxed, pan-and-scan and widescreen), precision color adjustments, and multi-channel audio decoding up to 7.1 channels with Dolby Surround A digital audio encoding system from Dolby that provides four channels. Derived from the Dolby Stereo technology used in movie theaters, Dolby Surround was introduced in the early 1980s for video soundtracks, audio cassettes, CDs, TV broadcasts, video games and PC software. , Dolby Pro Logic See Dolby Surround.  I and II, DTS (1) (Digital Theatre Sound) A digital audio encoding system used in movie and home theaters.
