ArcSoft Inc., makers of the award-winning Zipshot video capture device Video Capture Device (full title Weezer - Video Capture Device: Treasures from the Vault 1991-2002) is the Weezer DVD. It contains footage of a lot of live gigs from early stages of their musical career, right up until 2002. , announced today PhotoBase 2.0 -- the newest addition to the ArcSoft "Building Blocks of Digital Imaging" product line.

PhotoBase is an easy-to-use drag and drop A graphical user interface (GUI) capability that lets you perform operations by moving the icon of an object with the mouse into another window or onto another icon. For example, files can be copied or moved by dragging them from one folder to another.  multimedia manager and presentation application that builds albums of image, audio, video, HTML and text files for easy storage, retrieval, management and presentation.

Entire albums of files can be copied, printed, moved and sorted in a single step. Users can quickly create multimedia slide shows, web album pages and video postcards using their own images, video and sound files. Thumbnails of files can be searched by keywords, such as names, dates or any other information entered in customizable data fields.

"PhotoBase is the answer to the multimedia user's management and presentation needs and provides the perfect complement to standard office suite software," says Barbara Tsai, senior marketing manager at ArcSoft. "Users can now easily organize, enhance, present and share their multimedia files within minutes."

Slide Shows, Video Postcards and Web Albums

PhotoBase creates slide shows, video postcards and instant photo web pages. Self-running slide shows with full-screen display can be auto-looped with the option of including transitional effects and sound narration. Video postcards are created using personal video files (AVI) and offer the choice of using a personal photo or one of the many included images as a background. The Web Album feature creates an HTML file displaying contents of an album including actual files and information entered into data fields for others to access. PhotoBase includes Xerox TextBridge Classic for quickly converting scanned documents into text for immediate use. It converts into formatted text files that can be opened, edited and reformatted. Xerox TextBridge files are compatible with popular word processing, desktop publishing, database and spreadsheet applications.

Quick and Easy Management Tools

Easily identify graphic files with PhotoBase's thumbnail images. Create albums of images, audio, video, HTML and document (doc, xls, etc.) file types. Store and search for images and files with specific names, descriptions, dates, key words or any other information entered into customizable data fields. Using PhotoBase's one-step commands, users can quickly copy or move entire albums on the computer's hard drive or to other removable media without losing the links to the original files.

Image Editor

PhotoBase includes an image editor for cropping, rotating, sharpening, and color adjustments. Sound files can be recorded and attached to images for notation or narration.

PhotoBase 2.0 supports Adaptec(R) Easy CD Creator Adaptec Easy CD Creator is a CD authoring program bundled with many early CD writers.

It was part of a suite often just known as Adaptec Easy CD Creator, which consisted of:
  • CD Creator itself.
  • A CD copying program.
  • DirectCD, a packet writing program.
(TM) v.3.5 to allow easy copying of presentations to a CD-ROM. Albums can also be stored on any other removable media. System Requirements include: 486-based PC; Windows 95, 98 or NT; 16MB RAM; 25MB hard disk space; and a CD-ROM drive. A 16 or 24-bit display card is recommended. PhotoBase 2.0 is TWAIN-compliant and supports Video-for-Windows video cameras and capture devices. PhotoBase also supports BMP (1) (BitMaP) Also known as a "bump" file, it is the native, bitmapped graphics format in Windows. A BMP can be saved in several color options: 1-, 4-, 8- and 24-bit color provide 2, 16, 256 and 16,000,000 colors respectively.
