Arbor Software Announces Support For Tandem Computers' Worldwide Decision Support Initiative; Essbase analytical data mart to link with Tandem NonStop SQL databases.

The new partnership will provide customers with the combined benefits of Tandem's NonStop SQL as a core technology for data warehouse databases and Arbor's Essbase multidimensional database server as an analytical data mart for planning and analysis applications.

In support of their alliance, today the companies also announced that Tandem is an Arbor customer, using Essbase internally for a wide range of financial analysis, budgeting, and management reporting applications. "The partnership between Arbor and Tandem is exciting because it reflects our internal architecture," said Tony Lewis, vice president and corporate controller at Tandem. "At Tandem we use NonStop SQL Himalaya servers for our data warehouses, linked with Essbase data marts for planning and analysis applications. Our mutual customers will benefit from this showcase of integrated data warehouse and OLAP (OnLine Analytical Processing) Decision support software that allows the user to quickly analyze information that has been summarized into multidimensional views and hierarchies. Under the new partnership, Tandem plans to develop an ODBC (Open DataBase Connectivity) A database programming interface from Microsoft that provides a common language for Windows applications to access databases on a network.  SQL SQL

Arbor's SQL drill-through feature will also utilize the new Tandem SQL driver to provide users with a direct link between the summarized, analytical data held in Essbase and the detail data stored on a Tandem server by automatically generating live SQL queries from Essbase to NonStop SQL.

Arbor has joined Tandem's Decision Support Initiative partner program for independent software vendors committed to providing horizontal, Tandem-compatible software tools. The companies will also collaborate on selected marketing activities designed to educate the market on the benefits of a warehousing solution combining NonStop SQL with Essbase.
