Arbor Networks Protects Enterprises with Active Threat Feed; Peakflow X is first Internal IPS to proactively address phishing, worms and botnets through Behavioral Fingerprints.

LEXINGTON, Mass. -- Arbor Networks(R), a leader in network security, today announced the Active Threat Feed Security Service for its Peakflow(R) X enterprise security platform. Arbor's Active Threat Feed (ATF ATF Molecular virology Activating transcription factor A cellular protein that stimulates transcription of adenovirus E4 transcription unit, which acts early in infection at any of several 'enhancer' binding sites ) is the first 24x7 service that delivers behavioral fingerprints of emerging worldwide threats directly to enterprise security teams. Fueled by Arbor's newly-formed Security Response Team, the Active Threat Feed safeguards internal enterprise networks against phishing, worms, botnets and other emerging threats before they strike and harm critical business operations Business operations are those activities involved in the running of a business for the purpose of producing value for the stakeholders. Compare business processes. The outcome of business operations is the harvesting of value from assets .

Arbor's Security Response Team, run by Arbor's Principal Security Architect Dug Song, a widely recognized security researcher, identifies emerging threats around the clock from a variety of sources. Leveraging Arbor's global security presence and proprietary global monitoring infrastructure, the Arbor Security Response Team identifies the most critical and potentially destructive new attacks. As threats are identified, Arbor generates a behavioral fingerprint and automatically updates Peakflow X to protect the enterprise's network.

By providing enterprises with behavioral descriptions or cyber (1) From "cybernetics," it is a prefix attached to everyday words to add a computer, electronic or online connotation. The term is similar to "virtual," but the latter is used more frequently. See virtual.  "fingerprints" of the latest emerging threats, administrators can actively protect and harden their internal networks before attacks cause millions of dollars in lost revenue and downtime The time during which a computer is not functioning due to hardware, operating system or application program failure. . ATF builds on Peakflow X's behavioral anomaly detection An approach to intrusion detection that establishes a baseline model of behavior for users and components in a computer system or network. Deviations from the baseline cause alerts that direct the attention of human operators to the anomalies. See IDS and anomaly. , with its unmatched ability to identify potential attacks and prevent insider misuse.

Unlike signature-based systems that look for bad packets or patterns that make them prone to false positives, behavioral fingerprints are more advanced in their ability to identify abnormal groups of behaviors. Using these behavioral signatures ensures accurate detection and mitigation of increasingly complex attacks that specifically target internal networks.

"By giving enterprises global insight into the latest emerging threats, administrators can proactively protect internal networks before resources are compromised," said Dr. Rob Malan, co-founder and CTO (Chief Technical Officer) The executive responsible for the technical direction of an organization. See CIO and salary survey.  of Arbor Networks. "The Arbor Security Response Team has unique visibility into worldwide threats through our many partnerships with service providers. We're able to gather critical and exhaustive information from these partnerships and our internal research systems to protect our enterprise customers."

Some of the largest enterprises in the world are using Peakflow X to defend their networks from worms and insider misuse; achieve regulatory compliance based on HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act of 1996, Public Law 104-191) Also known as the "Kennedy-Kassebaum Act," this U.S. law protects employees' health insurance coverage when they change or lose their jobs (Title I) and provides standards for patient health,  and Sarbanes Oxley; and gain unprecedented visibility across their internal networks. Today's announcement is a large step forward toward securing the inside of enterprise networks against internal misuse and abuse with a true internal IPS (1) (Inches Per Second) The measurement of the speed of tape passing by a read/write head or paper passing through a pen plotter.
