Arbitrators Decide That Microsoft is Not Obligated to Pay REFAC Any Additional License Fee Under the Priest Patent.

: REF) patent licensing subsidiary, REFAC International, Ltd., and Microsoft Corporation (company) Microsoft Corporation - The biggest supplier of operating systems and other software for IBM PC compatibles. Software products include MS-DOS, Microsoft Windows, Windows NT, Microsoft Access, LAN Manager, MS Client, SQL Server, Open Data Base Connectivity (ODBC), MS Mail,  signed a non-exclusive License Agreement under U.S. Patent No. 5,167,011 (the "Priest Patent") which describes the systems for coordinating information storage and retrieval information storage and retrieval, the systematic process of collecting and cataloging data so that they can be located and displayed on request. Computers and data processing techniques have made possible the high-speed, selective retrieval of large amounts of . Both parties agreed to keep the terms of the License Agreement confidential except for the fact that the amount of the license fee would be determined through an arbitration arbitration

Process of resolving a dispute or a grievance outside a court system by presenting it for decision to an impartial third party. Both sides in the dispute usually must agree in advance to the choice of arbitrator and certify that they will abide by the
 proceeding. This proceeding was conducted in August and the arbitrators have decided that no further license fee is payable by Microsoft for a license under the Priest Patent.
