) is seeking power supply contracts to secure up to 300 megawatts of annual capacity to help meet the long-term energy demands of its 85,000 electric customers in Colorado, a company official announced today. Formerly UtiliCorp United, the company plans to issue its request for proposal (RFP (Request For Proposal) A document that invites a vendor to submit a bid for hardware, software and/or services. It may provide a general or very detailed specification of the system.

Aquila expects to begin receiving power from the successful bidder or bidders on January 1, 2007. The 300 megawatts is enough energy to provide the annual power needs for 72,000 homes.
