Aquila Files Security Application to End Reporting Requirements in Canada.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Aquila, Inc. (NYSE:ILA) announced today that it filed an application to cease to be a "reporting issuer" in the Provinces of British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario (Canada). The company took the action because it no longer has international utility operations.

If the relief is granted, Aquila will cease to be a reporting issuer in Canada and as such will not be required to file financial statements and other disclosure documents with Canadian regulatory authorities, the company said. Canadian shareholders will continue to receive all disclosure materials required by U.S. securities law to be delivered to securities holders in those Canadian jurisdictions in the same manner and as per the prescribed time required by U.S. securities law and U.S. market requirements. Ceasing to be a reporting issuer in Canada will not affect the company's U.S. securities laws obligations or its listing on the New York Stock Exchange. Less than 1 percent of the total outstanding common shares of Aquila are held by Canadian residents. Canadian shareholders continue to be eligible to trade their common shares of the New York Stock Exchange.
