Aqua Pennsylvania Changes Customer Service Number for More Than 350,000 Customers in Southeastern Pennsylvania; Phone Number Change is First Step towards Centralized Customer Service.

BRYN MAWR, Pa. -- Approximately 350,000 customers of Aqua Pennsylvania, Inc. (Aqua) in southeastern Pennsylvania will be dialing a new number for customer service and water emergencies beginning October 5. The company is the largest water utility in the suburban Philadelphia area.

Aqua is changing the 800 number currently used by customers in Delaware, Montgomery, Chester, Bucks and Berks counties as it prepares to centralize its customer service operations with its sister companies in 12 other states. Eventually, the company's customer call center located in Bryn Mawr will be expanded and will handle customer calls from throughout the entire state of Pennsylvania, as well as New Jersey and New York. The transition for the complete centralization of Aqua's customer service operations is expected the take more than a year, however, customers in southeastern Pennsylvania will begin dialing the new number associated with the change immediately.

The new toll-free number for Aqua customer service is 877-987-2782, which translates alphabetically to 877-WTR-AQUA. The new number is to be used by customers for routine customer service inquiries as well as to report water emergencies.

Aqua Vice President, Public Affairs and Customer Operations Chris Franklin said the number was chosen intentionally. "The WTR is actually the New York Stock Exchange ticker for our parent company, Aqua America, and of course the last four digits translate alphabetically to our brand name, Aqua," explained Franklin. "While it can be harder to dial by letters than numbers, it is often easier to remember phone numbers that are associated with letters--particularly when they can be pronounced."

Franklin said misplaced calls to the old phone number will be forwarded to the new number for a period of time, but encouraged customers to begin using the new number immediately. The new phone number will be prominently displayed on every customer bill for convenience. In addition, bill inserts with the new number will begin showing up in customers' bills beginning this next week.
