Aptix Announces Debug Analysis Tool for System Emulation; VirSim OEM Package Enables Fast, Easy-to-Use Waveform Analysis.Business Editors, High-Tech Writers SAN JOSE San Jose, city, United States San Jose (sănəzā`, săn hōzā`), city (1990 pop. 782,248), seat of Santa Clara co., W central Calif.; founded 1777, inc. 1850. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 24, 2000 Aptix Corporation today announced that it will provide customers with VirSim(TM), a graphical waveform analysis environment, for use with the company's reconfigurable prototyping systems for system-on-chip (SoC) emulation. The VirSim environment, from Summit Design, permits users of Aptix's System Explorer(TM) and SoC Explorer(TM) products to quickly evaluate information captured during co-emulation and in-circuit debugging modes. VirSim software permits rapid traversing of data gathered during debugging with System Explorer and SoC Explorer products. It enables users to easily access observed nets and registers and quickly change the observed locations by dragging and dropping new signals from a source RTL (Register Transfer Level) A high-level hardware description language (HDL) for defining digital circuits. The circuits are described as a collection of registers, Boolean equations, control logic such as "if-then-else" statements as well as complex event sequences; window into the waveform display window. VirSim can be used with the Module Verification Platform(TM) (MVP (Multimedia Video Processor) A high-speed DSP chip from Texas Instruments, introduced in 1994. Officially introduced as the TMS320C80, it combines RISC technology with the functionality of four DSPs on one chip. (TM)) in a co-emulation mode with simulators, when driving large regression tests through the emulation system, or during in-circuit debug To correct a problem in hardware or software. Debugging software means locating the errors in the source code (the program logic). Debugging hardware means finding errors in the circuit design (logical circuits) or in the physical interconnections of the circuits. when logic analyzers are used to view hundreds or thousands of locations within a design. Aptix and Summit Design announced an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and agreement earlier in the month. VirSim was selected by Aptix because of its widespread market acceptance and compatibility with popular simulators such as VCS (1) (Verilog Computer Simulator) See Verilog. (2) (Version Control System) See version control. (TM) from Synopsys. VirSim will be available as an upgrade for all System Explorer and SoC Explorer customers by end of Q1. About Aptix Corporation Aptix Corporation's products are used to verify system and system-on-chip (SOC) designs prior to integrated circuit integrated circuit (IC), electronic circuit built on a semiconductor substrate, usually one of single-crystal silicon. The circuit, often called a chip, is packaged in a hermetically sealed case or a nonhermetic plastic capsule, with leads extending from it for (IC) and board tape-out and fabrication fabrication (fab´rikā´sh n the construction or making of a restoration. . Aptix's products utilize the block-based verification methodology, which provides a mechanism to map and verify individual design blocks incrementally and in parallel with the design creation process. This methodology shortens the net prototype creation time to achieve real-world operation of the prototype to the few days required to map and verify the last RTL block designed. Debugging designs becomes simple because the mapping process is both under the user's interactive control and follows the natural hierarchy of the design. This also makes tracing design problems back to the source netlist an intuitive process. The company is privately held and is headquartered at 2880 North First Street, San Jose, Calif. 95134.
