Aptis and XACCT Partner to Provide Convergent Billing for IP Providers.

Aptis, Inc., and XACCT Technologies, Inc., today announced an agreement to jointly market convergent, usage-based Internet Protocol (IP) billing solutions to telecom providers.

The agreement includes integrating the XACCTusage(tm) system and the Aptis ICP (1) (Internet Cache Protocol) A protocol used by one proxy server to query another for a cached Web page without having to go to the Internet to retrieve it. See CARP and proxy server. (tm) business support software modules via application programming interfaces (APIs). This will allow customers to effectively bill for IP services the same way they would for any switch-based service.

Aptis is the software subsidiary of Billing Concepts Corp. (Nasdaq:BILL), the leading billing solutions provider for communications companies. XACCT, the pioneer in the IP mediation market, is the developer of the XACCTusage metering and mediation solution for IP networks. Communications companies with aggressive business plans have a need for solutions that allow them to bill for a variety of services easily and effectively. However, flat-rate billing structures for such services have proven inflexible for most data and telecom providers, delaying the deployment of new services.
