Zeneca Diagnostics, a business unit of Zeneca Ltd. and the designated distributor for the company's GenSite product, is expected to serve as the distributor for the product in Europe, according to Joel Bresser, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer.

"I am proud to announce that Aprogenex has begun the long- awaited commercialization of its technology," stated Bresser. "We expect AproProbe to be the first in a series of genetic testing products for genetic analysis of different types of samples.

"In the future, we plan additions to this product line, incorporating different markers for use on maternal blood samples. Other offerings under the AproProbe label are expected to be available before the end of June 1995."

The AproProbe research product line may be used to enumerate To count or list one by one. For example, an enumerated data type defines a list of all possible values for a variable, and no other value can then be placed into it. In utilizing chromosome probes to enumerate chromosomes 21, 18, 13, X and Y, the procedure can identify disorders such as Down's Syndrome, Edward's Syndrome, Patau's Syndrome, Kleinfelter's Syndrome, XYY Syndrome, Triple X Syndrome triple X syndrome XXX syndrome, see there  and Turner's Syndrome.

The test can be performed in approximately 30 minutes and requires about 15 minutes of technician time.

The European launch of the complete GenSite test, for the identification and genetic screening of fetal cells circulating in maternal blood, is currently scheduled for the second half of 1995. As expected, there can be no assurance regarding the timing and other matters relating to these assays, which are subject to numerous contingencies.

The company is in the clinical trial process with components of its GenSite maternal blood prenatal genetic testing assay and in preclinical development with its PapPlus HPV HPV human papillomavirus.
