April Shaughnessy Appointed Director of External Relations for Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy has announced the appointment of April Shaughnessy, RPh, CAE, to its newly created post of director of External Relations. Shaughnessy was most recently deputy to the executive vice president for Governance of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), where she had been for the last twenty years.

At APhA Shaughnessy had responsibility for work on policy and activities related to pharmacists' manpower and the pharmacy practice environment. She also directed APhA's policy development process and its House of Delegates operations and was liaison for multiple committees, as well as APhA's co-representative to the Council on Credentialing in Pharmacy. In prior APhA posts, Shaughnessy served as senior director, Practice Analysis and Planning; group director of Membership; director of Membership Development, Student and New Practitioner Programs and Student Affairs.

Shaughnessy is a pharmacist and has worked both in community and hospital pharmacy settings, at Walgreens locations in Chicago and the University of Chicago Hospitals & Clinics. She received her BS in Pharmacy at Creighton University and is a licensed practitioner in Illinois. She is the recipient of numerous certificates and awards and has authored dozens of publications. She is also a member of the American Society of Association Executives and serves on the Executive Management Section Council.
