Apresta Survey Reveals That Over 68% of Global 2000 Companies Plan to Expand Wireless Data Access Beyond Email in 2007; More IT Departments Are Moving to Handheld Devices in Support of Enterprise Data Access.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- At the Wireless Enterprise Symposium 2006 being held here this week, Apresta (www.apresta.com), the leader in bringing business processes to wireless devices, released the results of a new survey which reveals that IT management at Global 2000 companies are responding to demands to address the business needs for their expanding mobile user base by supporting wireless access to enterprise data. E[acute accent]A survey of over 150 Global 2000 companies from financial services, health care, insurance, manufacturing, chemical production, retail, and government revealed that large multi-national organizations have already deployed significant number of devices. Respondents indicated that they are looking beyond e-mail to embrace additional enterprise applications on handheld devices. Of those surveyed, 80.5% said they already support wireless for e-mail, and are looking to extend access to a variety of corporate back-end systems to meet the growing demand to real-time data access from the field. And 43.7% of the respondents said they already have plans to move in that direction, while 24.1% said wireless enterprise support is a key initiative E[acute accent]The survey further revealed that wireless users are looking for a variety of enterprise data on their handheld devices. Most users are looking for key account information (47.1%) and new sales leads (44.8%), but the survey shows that field staff also want to have access to a wide range of information, including:

E[acute accent]The survey also found that the average IT Department supports 2,200 wireless devices in the field, mostly for executive management (74.7%) and field sales (58.6%). Respondents indicated that they expected the number of wireless devices to increase by at least 65.2% in the coming months to an average of 3,630 users.
