Reader Francis Short pointed out: "The Greyhound Hotel in Carshalton is a stone's throw from the final resting place of the gentleman who invented the first mechanical hare. "Falle Geary took out the patent in 1875 and it was used in a series of races at Hendon the following year. He spent the end of his life in Carshalton and is buried in the old churchyard above the ponds. "If anyone would like to pay their respects on Tuesday, the grave can be found behind the church near the south-east corner, confusingly bearing the name Charles Geary.
