Speedy, which has a number of depots across Liverpool, has joined forces with Askham Bryan College Bryan College is a private co-educational Christian college located in Dayton, Tennessee. The college had its beginning when its namesake William Jennings Bryan, who was participating in the Scopes Trial, expressed his interest in helping to establish a men's junior college in the in York and Construction Skills to develop the scheme, which provides students with NVQs and Technical Certificates in Plant Maintenance leading to a full advanced apprenticeship apprenticeship, system of learning a craft or trade from one who is engaged in it and of paying for the instruction by a given number of years of work. The practice was known in ancient Babylon, Egypt, Greece, and Rome, as well as in modern Europe and to some extent framework following a three year course. The first 16 entrants to the course were chosen out of 150 applicants and are all guaranteed jobs at their local Speedy depot when the qualification has been completed. Steve Winward, director of Speedy Northern, said: "We've worked closely with Construction Skills and the college to develop a comprehensive scheme for our 16 apprentices. "Each month the students will travel to York for a week of studying and then spend the rest of the month at our depot to apply what they've learnt on the job."
