I am pleased to announce the appointment of Victor J. Menezes as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Citibank, N.A. Victor will replace John Reed as Chairman of Citibank, N.A. on April 18, 2000. He will continue in his position as co-Chief Executive Officer of the Global Corporate and Investment Bank and as Citigroup's Regional Business Executive for Emerging Markets.

Victor joined Citibank in 1972 and has held a series of senior positions within the bank. His extensive international experience, global perspective and financial expertise make him uniquely suited to assume this position. He has served as the President of Citibank, N.A. since 1998.

As co-Chief Executive Officer of the Global Corporate and Investment Bank, Victor shares responsibility for Citigroup's services to corporate customers and for integrating the activities of Salomon Smith Barney Smith Barney is a division of Citigroup Global Capital Markets Inc., a global, full-service financial firm, that provides brokerage, investment banking and asset management services to corporations, governments and individuals around the world.  and Citibank's corporate banking. In January 2000, in addition to his existing responsibilities, Victor was appointed to the newly formed position of Regional Business Executive for Emerging Markets and is responsible for the coordination of all Citigroup's activities across business lines within Emerging Markets.

He received an electrical engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology in 1970 and a Master of Science in finance Master of Science in Finance (MSF) is a Master's degree designed to prepare graduates for careers in financial analysis, investment management and corporate finance. The MSF is generally a one-year, non-thesis degree, and is often positioned as a professional degree.  and economics from the Sloan School of Massachusetts Institute of Technology Massachusetts Institute of Technology, at Cambridge; coeducational; chartered 1861, opened 1865 in Boston, moved 1916. It has long been recognized as an outstanding technological institute and its Sloan School of Management has notable programs in business,  in 1972.
