SPOKANE, Wash. -- Students interested in applying for college scholarships from the Potlatch potlatch (pŏt`lăch'), ceremonial feast of the natives of the NW coast of North America, entailing the public distribution of property.  Foundation for Higher Education higher education

Study beyond the level of secondary education. Institutions of higher education include not only colleges and universities but also professional schools in such fields as law, theology, medicine, business, music, and art.
 for the 2006/2007 school year may begin the process now, the foundation administrator announced. Scholarships are $1,400 per school year and are renewable annually up to four years.

Foundation trustees select recipients based on financial need, character, leadership qualities, scholastic achievement, and ability. Applicants must either reside or attend a high school located within 30 miles of a major Potlatch facility. Additionally, applicants must be: 1) high school seniors or 2) undergraduate college students attending an accredited accredited

recognition by an appropriate authority that the performance of a particular institution has satisfied a prestated set of criteria.

It normally takes several weeks for students, schools and references to complete the application information. Applicants are urged to obtain forms and schedule ACT or SAT tests as early as possible to meet the foundation's deadline.

All scholarship application materials must reach the foundation in one complete package by February 15, 2006.
