: APLX), a global provider of Business Intelligence (BI) and Business Performance Management (BPM) software solutions, today announced the availability of TM1 8.2, the latest release of Applix's flasgship TM1 OLAP engine. TM1 8.2 lowers the total cost of ownership of BI and BPM applications by providing IT departments with new features that ease deployment and management.

"Business intelligence applications need not be massive, multi-year IT projects," said David Mahoney David Mahoney (born April 14, 1981 in Wellesley, Massachusetts) is an American soccer goalkeeper, who formerly played for the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer.

Mahoney played college soccer at Brown University during the 2001 and 2002 seasons before transferring to
, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Applix. "Applix's TM1 is already known for its rapid ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. In the IT world, there are more ways to compute ROI than Carter has liver pills (and for those of you who never heard of that expression, it means a lot). , particularly for departmental applications in which IT support is limited. We've further streamlined the latest version - TM1 8.2 - and added key features to make it easier to use, deploy, manage and maintain."

"Additionally, many entities rely on the TM1 OLAP engine for multiple applications by multiple user communities. As companies expand the use of TM1 across their enterprises, enhancements such as those in TM1 8.2 greatly reduce the cost of rolling out additional applications," said Mahoney.

TM1 8.2 includes a number of new features that make it both easier to use and manage:

-- The ability to add dial gauges for improved Applix Integra

dashboards;

-- The consolidated hold - a feature allowing end users to "hold"

a sum at a top level and "spread" a variety of calculations

beneath, enabling them to continue to perform budgeting

allocations without affecting the top sum; and

-- A rules guide that improves the ability of customers to

leverage the power of TM1's rules for rapid, efficient

development of data models.

Another key feature of TM1 8.2 features is support for LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) A protocol used to access a directory listing. LDAP support is implemented in Web browsers and e-mail programs, which can query an LDAP-compliant directory.  (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (protocol) Lightweight Directory Access Protocol - (LDAP) A protocol for accessing on-line directory services.

) and Microsoft's Active Directory. By supporting these standards, TM1 addresses key issues for both IT administrators and end users, while lowering application maintenance costs.

Directory services provide an easier way to manage user IDs and passwords, reducing the administration tasks associated with large-scale deployments. Additionally, directory services provide a single source from which to administer user and group security policies. Since much of the information stored in and managed with TM1 applications is key financial and operational data, security of the system is paramount to a successful application. Increasingly, Applix customers are turning to TM1 to manage their Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and Six Sigma Not to be confused with Sigma 6.
Six Sigma is a set of practices originally developed by Motorola to systematically improve processes by eliminating defects.[1] A defect is defined as nonconformity of a product or service to its specifications.
practices - activities with stringent security requirements.

"The support for LDAP and Active Directory to TM1 is important because it further reduces IT administration of TM1," said Tom Rowland, President of Breakaway Technologies, Inc., an Applix partner. "We are excited by the continued improvements to this engine because it means that companies large and small can now more quickly harness the strategic power of business intelligence -- while keeping costs down."

Availability

TM1 Version 8.2 will be available in September 2003.
