today revealed new CallXpress3 modules that provide true unified messaging Having access to e-mail, voice mail and faxes via a common computer application or by telephone. For example, unified messaging may send faxes and digitized voice mail to a mail server that turns them into e-mail attachments.  by giving users a single set of tools for managing all of their messages from within one application at a desktop workstation or via the telephone. AVT will also preview a software module for real-time handling of calls at the desktop workstation by individuals or workgroups.

Unified Messaging

AVT will demonstrate unified messaging for users who work with the two most common business tools in existence: the telephone and the personal computer. E-Mail Access, winner of the 1995 Product of the Year award from Computer Telephony magazine, allows users to access all of their messages -- voice, fax, and e-mail -- from the telephonic user interface of any touch-tone telephone. At the Expo, AVT will demonstrate E-Mail Access-based systems compatible with Lotus cc:Mail, Lotus Notes Messaging and groupware software from IBM Lotus that was introduced in 1989 for OS/2 and later expanded to Windows, Mac, Unix, NetWare, AS/400 and S/390. Notes provides e-mail, document sharing, workflow, group discussions and calendaring and scheduling. , and Microsoft Mail An earlier and simple messaging system from Microsoft that runs on PC and AppleTalk networks. Gateways are available to a variety of mail systems including X.400, PROFS and MHS. Microsoft Mail-enabled applications are written to the MAPI programming interface. Users can view all of their messages on a single list; review, store, and reply to all messages via a single procedure; and forward messages to any other subscriber or group of subscribers on the system. In doing so, users can manage all of their messages from a single application by using the same set of commands -- greatly enhancing their productivity.

Call Management

AVT will also demonstrate the call management capabilities of its newly developed CallXpress3 Desktop Call Manager -- designed for both individual users and workgroups. Individual users can view all of their calls on their desktop workstation (optionally identifying the caller as the call is received by using caller ID A telephone company service that sends the caller's telephone number between the first and second ring of the call. If the calling number is not blocked, the calling number is displayed on the handset or base station of the called party.  or the product's built-in IVR (Interactive Voice Response) An automated telephone information system that speaks to the caller with a combination of fixed voice menus and data extracted from databases in real time.  capabilities), and can choose to answer the call, forward the call, request that the caller hold, or reply to the caller with a selected message.

Workgroups whose members draw calls from a common queue can visit AVT at the Expo to see demos of CallXpress3 systems optimized for high-throughput call management. Agents in call centers or technical support groups, for example, will be able to view caller queues on their workstation displays. Using display information such as hold times, the name or phone number of the caller, or information acquired by an interactive voice response (IVR) script, the call center or technical support group can link calls to the most appropriate agent, minimize call durations, and provide better customer service.

These innovative computer telephony products are being shown in Applied Voice Technology's booth (1801) during Computer Telephony Expo '96 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, March 12-14, 1996.
