Applied Voice Technology announces organizational changes.

Office of the president enhances company's ongoing growth

strategy

Applied Voice Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:AVTC), today announced several organizational changes. Included in the changes are the accounced retirement of AVT co-founder Dennis King and the creation of a new "Office of the President."

Dennis King, AVT co-founder and executive vice president of market development, will be retiring from Applied Voice Technology as a full time officer and director but will continue his involvement with the company as an industry consultant and advisor.

King was one of the four original founders of Applied Voice Technology in 1982. Over the past six years, he has had primary responsibility for advising the AVT management team of industry trends and acting as a liaison to industry organizations. He will continue to advise the management and the Board of Directors as a consultant to the company.

King's other responsibilities will be assumed by Joe Staples, AVT's senior vice president of world wide marketing, and Greg Blanpied, AVT's chief technology officer. King's position on the Board of Directors will be filled with a new outside director, yet to be named.

Commenting on today's announcement, Richard J. LaPorte, AVT chairman and chief executive officer said: "Dennis King has devoted all of his attention to AVT since co-founding the company almost 15 years ago. His contribution to the success and strong growth of AVT has been tremendous. Dennis has wanted to spend more time with his family and pursue other outside activities. The company also announced two promotions. Roger Fukai has been promoted to executive vice president and chief financial officer from senior vice president. Fukai has been with AVT since 1988 and has been CFO since 1991. Blanpied has been promoted to executive vice president and chief technology officer from senior vice president of engineering and operations.

Blanpied has been with AVT since 1991 and has had primary responsibility for all software and hardware engineering, operations and technical services functions in the company.

Additionally, in a change designed to effectively deal with the company's ongoing strategy to grow through market-driven product development and acquisitions, Fukai, Blanpied and LaPorte, will make up a new "Office of the President" with oversight responsibility for AVT's day-to-day operations, including present and future subsidiaries.

In addition, the members of the Office of the President will be actively involved in evaluating new business opportunities, including outside acquisitions. Strategic acquisitions have helped AVT post revenue growth of 37 percent through the first nine months of 1996 and to increase the percentage of revenue contributed by high-margin, high-growth computer telephony applications, to a record 49 percent.

Regarding the promotions, LaPorte added: "Both Roger Fukai and Greg Blanpied have been major contributors to our executive team for the past five years. As the two most senior of our executive staff in terms of tenure at AVT, they have had primary responsibility for many areas of the company's operation.
