Applied Voice Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVTC), today announced the availability of a new version of its award-winning unified messaging server, CallXpress(R) for Windows NT(R).

This new version expands the product capabilities with four major product enhancements further entrenching CallXpress for Windows NT as the market's leading Windows NT-based unified messaging server.

Paramount to this release are the changes to the internal software logic required to support the Year 2000. CallXpress for Windows NT correctly recognizes dates after Dec. 31, 1999, and correctly processes those dates in internal algorithms, databases and reports.

Another significant enhancement in this release is inclusion of AVT's unified messaging module, E-Mail Access(TM) as a standard part of the product. This application module, which provides telephone access to email messages along with voice and fax messages, is now included with every CallXpress for Windows NT system for no additional charge. The product has always included five client licenses of CallXpress Desktop Message Manager, AVT's desktop-based unified messaging interface. With the addition of E-Mail Access and a text-to-speech resource, CallXpress for Windows NT truly is a unified messaging server, providing unified messaging interfaces, through both the desktop computer and the telephone, as standard components of the product.

This version of CallXpress for Windows NT also introduces the AVT VPIM/Digital Networking module. This software module allows users to exchange voice and fax messages with users of other voice messaging systems across the Internet or corporate intranet using the Voice Profile for Internet Mail (VPIM) protocol. Using AVT's VPIM/Digital Networking capability, users can send voice and fax messages to users in other locations, eliminating the long distance charge associated with analog transmissions, and reducing the transmission time by more than 200% compared to analog networking.

Also in this latest release of CallXpress for Windows NT is the CallXpress Enterprise Fax Server. This network fax server, based on the multi-award-winning Enterprise 5.0 fax server of AVT subsidiary, RightFAX(R), contains numerous enhancements including least-cost routing, load balancing, support of ODBC- and MAPI-compliant phonebooks, improved fax broadcasting, and more.

Additional enhancements to this release include a number of telephone integration enhancements including an improved integration to the MITEL telephone system supporting the MITEL DNIC integration link, visual display support of the Norstar and Panasonic telephone systems, as well as T-1 and E-1 integrations.
