Applied Voice Technology Adds Novell GroupWise Support to Suite of Unified Messaging Solutions.

KIRKLAND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 13, 1997--Applied Voice Technology (NASDAQ: AVTC) today announced that its award-winning unified messaging application, E-Mail Access(tm), is now available for users of Novell, Inc.'s (Orem, Utah) GroupWise(tm), a leading product in the high-growth groupware market. AVT's E-Mail Access allows users to manage all of their messages -- voice, fax and email -- during a single call placed from any touch-tone telephone in the world. With this addition, email systems supported by E-Mail Access now include GroupWise 5, Microsoft Mail, Microsoft Exchange, Lotus cc:Mail and Lotus Notes.

"AVT recognizes that many businesses deploy multiple email systems within their organizations," said Joseph A. Staples, AVT's senior vice president of worldwide marketing. "A unified messaging system that can support multiple email systems on a single platform is critical to meeting the needs of these customers. Our support of GroupWise 5 signals AVT's continued commitment to develop the most complete portfolio of unified messaging solutions available in the market."

AVT's unified messaging solution for GroupWise provides many features for enhancing productivity. Users can retrieve voice, fax and email messages during a single telephone call, using a single set of commands. Utilizing text-to-speech technology, users can listen to their email messages over the phone, and using text-to-fax technology, forward them to any fax machine for printing. Users can also save, forward and delete email messages via the telephone as well as reply to an email message with a voice message. In addition, AVT's Live Reply(tm) feature allows users to press one key to transfer directly to the sender of a message to conduct a live conversation.

"Unified messaging through a telephone user interface is a critical application for the large population of traveling and remote business employees," added Staples. "We are pleased that we can now offer these capabilities to users of GroupWise 5."

As part of the future evolution of AVT's unified messaging solution for GroupWise, the product will utilize the GroupWise message store and user directories for voice, fax and email messages, providing a single point of administration for system managers. On the desktop PC, users will be able to manage their voice, fax and email messages from the GroupWise client interface, having access to messages from the intuitive graphical interface as well as through the flexible and ubiquitous access of a touch-tone phone.

GroupWise is an expanded client/server email system that is the first in the industry to include full document management capabilities as part of a new Universal Mail Box. GroupWise 5 also seamlessly integrates calendaring/scheduling, task management, shared folders, conferencing, workflow, and access to the World Wide Web into the Universal Mail Box.
