Under the terms of the initial subcontract, Applied Signal Technology will provide three subsystems for each of the two Engineering Development Model systems. A Model 1209C1 audio subsystem and two other specialized processing subsystems will be provided as part of the upgrade.

Gary Yancey, the company's president and chief executive officer, explained, "We are very excited about this major contract for our Military Reconnaissance Division. Although this first contract is primarily for development, the two Navies have multiple destroyers planned for upgrade which should provide Applied Signal Technology with production contracts into the foreseeable future."
