(TM)), creator of the award-winning Digital ICE(TM) technology, the leader of automatic photo restoration applications and the inventor of the cutting-edge digital dry film processing (Digital PIC(TM)) system, announces today the implementation of its Digital ICE3 (pronounced ice cubed) suite in the new Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite II film scanner See slide scanner. .

ASF's groundbreaking Digital ICE3 suite enables photographers, graphic artists and publishers to make the best possible scanned image files from original color negatives and slides, even if there are scratches or dust on the film, the original color has faded or the images are grainy grain·y

. Digital ICE3, combined with the high-speed functionality and versatility of this new Minolta film scanner, provide photographers and other imaging specialists with the tools and flexibility they need to automatically create high-quality scanned images.

"We are extremely pleased that Minolta has chosen to incorporate our Digital ICE3 technology in yet another one of their film scanners," said Dan Sullivan For other uses, see Dan Sullivan (disambiguation).

"Minolta continues to elevate the standards for high-quality, high-speed film scanning and photo restoration with the introduction of the DiMAGE Scan Elite II. The combined technologies of this Minolta film scanner will strongly benefit professional and amateur photographer's digital imaging needs."

"Minolta is delighted to once again offer a film scanner enhanced with Applied Science Fiction's Digital ICE3 technology to professional photographers, photo enthusiasts and business professionals in the health care, industrial, law enforcement, educational and printing fields," said Jon Sienkiewicz, vice president of imaging, Minolta Consumer Products Group. "Having already offered Digital ICE3, Digital ICE, and Digital GEM and Digital ROC in three of our earlier film scanners, we are pleased to now introduce the versatile and affordable Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite II."

Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite II

Easy enough for amateurs to use yet powerful enough to please demanding advanced amateurs and professionals, the new DiMAGE Scan Elite II provides an economical and versatile way to scan, digitize To convert an image or signal into digital code by scanning, tracing on a graphics tablet or using an analog to digital conversion device. 3D objects can be digitized by a device with a mechanical arm that is moved onto all the corners.  and quickly restore 35mm and Advanced Photo System (APS) film (with optional APS adapter).

The results are highly detailed images with accurate color reproduction. The 4.8 dynamic range ensures shadows and highlight details are retained and the 16-bit output preserves the details of the original scan. The Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite II's Color Matching capability offers sRGB, Apple RGB, SMPTEC-C, PAL/SECAM and other color space A system for describing color numerically. Also known as a "color model," the most widely used color spaces are RGB for scanners and displays, CMYK for color printing and YUV for video and TV.  settings so the images on one monitor will display the same color on another. This scanner also features intuitive, user-friendly software.

With Applied Science Fiction's Digital ICE3 technology incorporated in the Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite II, users save time and money by producing professional-quality images without resorting to time-consuming digital retouching, or by hiring outside digital service bureaus.

Digital ICE3

ASF's Digital ICE3 suite is a combination of ASF's Digital ICE, Digital ROC(TM) and Digital GEM(TM) technologies. Scanners integrated with this trio provide professionals and photo enthusiasts with simply the best digital image possible, automatically.

The award-winning Digital ICE automatically removes surface defects such as dust and scratches from a scanned image. Digital ICE differentiates itself from software-only solutions because it does not soften, blur or otherwise alter any underlying details or composition of the original image. Instead, ASF's patented Digital ICE technology works automatically from within the scanner during the scanning process to provide the user with a clear, authentic base image that improves the original image. The user does not need to learn or install any additional software to make the Digital ICE solution work.

Correcting faded color and reducing image grain has plagued professionals as a painstaking and time-consuming process. Digital ROC automatically restores an image's original colors by analyzing the base image and applying corrections to the faded colors. Using a complex set of proprietary algorithms, Digital ROC reads the dye signature in color negatives and slides and restores colors to the appropriate levels.

By analyzing and reducing the grain caused by the film emulsion emulsion: see colloid.

, Digital GEM automatically enhances the clarity of a scanned image while preserving its colors, gradations and sharpness. Digital GEM analyzes a film's unique grain pattern pixel by pixel, extracts all data related to image quality, color and sharpness, and removes the grain from the scanned record of the image, which results in dramatically improved images.
