Applied Process Using AFS CD-ROM to 'Spread the Word' on Metal Castings.

In September September: see month. , Applied Process, Inc., Livonia, Michigan Livonia is a city located in the northwest part of Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 100,545, making it the eighth largest in the state. , a developer of austempering (a high-performance Adj. 1. high-performance - modified to give superior performance; "a high-performance car"

In an effort to "spread the word" on metalcasting, Applied Process President John Keough intends to distribute the CD-ROMS to all junior-level mechanical engineering students in Michigan Michigan (mĭsh`ĭgən), upper midwestern state of the United States. It consists of two peninsulas thrusting into the Great Lakes and has borders with Ohio and Indiana (S), Wisconsin (W), and the Canadian province of Ontario (N,E). . He also has challenged others to do the same in their respective states.

Keough feels that the metalcasting industry has been ignorning this audience of future manufacturers. Some colleges have begun to drop engineering classes from their requirements for a degree. "How can we expect these up-and-coming up-and-comĀ·ing

engineers to specify our materials if those materials aren't even on their radar screen?" he said. "These are the people who will buy our future products, specify castings as components and design the high-performance, near-net shape, lightweight components of the future. That is, if they know we exist."
