(NASDAQ:AINN AINN Artificial Intelligence Neural Network ) has selected the Marben OSI (1) (Open System Interconnection) An ISO standard for worldwide communications that defines a framework for implementing protocols in seven layers. Control is passed from one layer to the next, starting at the application layer in one station, proceeding to the  Protocol Stack The set of protocols used in a communications network. A protocol stack is a prescribed hierarchy of software layers, starting from the application layer at the top (the source of the data being sent) to the data link layer at the bottom (transmitting the bits on the wire).  distributed by DSET as a key software component for their AISwitch 180. This Applied Innovation product facilitates interconnection among remote network elements, operations support systems Operations Support Systems (also called Operational Support Systems or OSS) are computer systems used by telecommunications service providers. The term OSS most frequently describes "network systems" dealing with the telecom network itself, supporting processes such  (OSS's), and data communications networks.

The Marben OSI Protocol Stack will enable the AISwitch 180 to interconnect various types of network equipment and systems that use OSI protocols. OSI stands for Open System Interconnection See OSI. , an international standard that employs seven layers of functionality to support interconnection and interoperability.

Using the Marben OSI Protocol Stack, the AISwitch 180 increases the efficiency of communicating data for managing telecommunications networks. It can collect data from network elements, concentrate multiple data streams onto a single link to an OSS Oss (ôs), city (1994 pop. 62,141), North Brabant prov., S Netherlands; chartered 1399. It is a significant industrial center. Manufactures include meat products, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, electrical equipment, and metalware. , provide a data path for remote management of network elements, and allow implementation of new protocols for network operation.

According to Jack Ray, Applied Innovation's director of engineering, the stability of the Marben OSI Protocol Stack for use with embedded systems is one of its main features. He also cited the OSI stack's adaptability in meeting the production needs of Applied Innovation. "The OSI stack supplied by DSET has helped us turn out better products, and to turn them out with a significantly reduced time-to-market," Ray said.

Phillip Cavallo, vice president of marketing and product management for DSET, commented, "This is one more instance of how DSET application development tools make it possible for a company to respond to market demand faster and more efficiently. Over the past decade, we've provided numerous network solutions using our application development tools and expertise."
