Applied Innovation Introduces New Management Product for Small, Remote Telecom Sites.

DUBLIN, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 1, 1999--Applied Innovation's (Nasdaq:AINN AINN Artificial Intelligence Neural Network ) latest new product targets the alarm reporting and management needs of small telecom sites. The new AIspy(TM) product monitors relay contact and analog alarm & status signals from the equipment often used in CEVs, Huts, and Cabinets, throughout the telecom networks. These smaller facilities are frequently crowded with equipment, putting space at a premium. Built in a compact package for limited space applications, the AIspy(TM) converts relay contact and analog data into a form that can be sent to and processed by the Operations Support Systems Operations Support Systems (also called Operational Support Systems or OSS) are computer systems used by telecommunications service providers. The term OSS most frequently describes "network systems" dealing with the telecom network itself, supporting processes such , which manage the network.

The 2 inch high, AIspy(TM) includes 12 ports for monitoring wet or dry relay contacts and 8 ports for analog sensor or relay contact information. Commonly monitored relay contact alarms include doors, water, fire and power. Analog sensors could include battery voltage, air dryer output, temperature, humidity and pressure. The AIspy(TM) also includes 6 output control ports. These contact closure type control ports may be triggered automatically by predetermined pre·de·ter·mine

Network Operations Center - (NOC) A location from which the operation of a network or internet is monitored. Additionally, this center usually serves as a clearinghouse for connectivity problems and efforts to resolve those problems.
. In addition, the AIspy(TM) can also be used to control physical access to the property using a keypad or DTMF (Dual-Tone MultiFrequency) The type of audio signals that are generated when you press the buttons on a touch-tone telephone. See also DMTF.

 signals.

The AIspy(TM) logs alarms and events in non-volatile memory. This log includes the last 100 alarm entries and analog readings beyond thresholds. A separate site log shows who has accessed the site and when access was gained.

Options for Communications to the OSS include EIA-232 (Async), Ethernet (10BaseT), and dial-up or leased line modem A high-speed modem used in private lines. It may have built-in lower speeds for alternate use in dial-up lines.  (RJ-45). Craft access is also provided. For increased flexibility, the AIspy(TM) can operate with ASCII ASCII or American Standard Code for Information Interchange, a set of codes used to represent letters, numbers, a few symbols, and control characters. Originally designed for teletype operations, it has found wide application in computers. , SNMP or TL1 management systems.
