A Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) is an agreement between a government agency and a private company to work together.
(CRADA CRADA Cooperative Research And Development Agreement ) with the Department of Energy's laboratory in Idaho to develop the next generation of rapid analytical tools used for DNA analysis DNA analysis Any technique used to analyze genes and DNA. See Chromosome walking, DNA fingerprinting, Footprinting, In situ hybridization, Jeffries' probe, Jumping libraries, PCR, RFLP analysis, Southern blot hybridization. , to enhance speed, efficiency and expand the utility of the novel Applied DNA security marker technology.

Consistent with the National Security mission of the DOE laboratories, and because of their unique equipment and capabilities, scientists and engineers at the Idaho lab will work to improve DNA forensic testing tools that build upon Polymerase Chain Reaction polymerase chain reaction (pŏl`ĭmərās') (PCR), laboratory process in which a particular DNA segment from a mixture of DNA chains is rapidly replicated, producing a large, readily analyzed sample of a piece of DNA; the process is  (PCR-based) detection of DNA recovered from security marked materials. Providing greater security for official documents, currency, textiles and drug packaging are the goals of this program. Articles spiked with the harmless botanical DNA marker, will help to thwart counterfeiting, grey market corruption and enhance the accounting of sensitive or secure materials.

"Applied DNA Sciences has developed a proprietary and exclusive method to stabilize botanical DNA to survive harsh industrial processing and endure years of use. We have enlisted the unique expertise of the national laboratories to make DNA work as a broadly adopted, practical security solution, which requires a method of detection and analysis that is faster and cheaper over that which is commercially available today, said Paul Reep, Chief Technology Officer.

In February of this year Applied DNA Sciences executed a similar research agreement with the Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS USDA-ARS United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service ) Cotton Quality Research Station in Clemson, South Carolina South Carolina, state of the SE United States. It is bordered by North Carolina (N), the Atlantic Ocean (SE), and Georgia (SW). Facts and Figures
