The 15-member board is seeking five new members, who will serve three-year terms. Committee meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at 11:30 a.m. in Eugene. Driver refresher courses offered for older motorists The AARP AARP, a nonprofit, nonpartisan national organization dedicated to "enriching the experience of aging"; membership is open to people age 50 or older. Founded in 1958 by Ethel Percy Andrus as American Association of Retired Persons, AARP now has over 30 million is offering its monthly driver refresher courses for those 50 and older. The courses are designed to help older drivers improve their skills while teaching them to avoid crashes and traffic violations. Some insurance companies provide a discount to graduates of the program. The eight-hour course is taught in two four-hour sessions over two days. The cost is $10, and there are no tests. The courses are open to AARP members and nonmembers. Race open for young runners and nonrunners The Eugene Challenge Cross Country for Kids race will kick off Friday at 4 p.m. in front of Autzen Stadium The stadium is tucked between the Willamette River and Coburg Hills. The uniquely shaped bowl blends in with the wooded Eugene landscape.
