Communications is the fastest-growing segment of today's electronics industry. The information superhighway, satellite communications, employee teleworking alternatives and wireless and cellular telephony all continue to revolutionize the product and service goals of the electronics industry.

Wescon's Application Conference will harness the latest technological ideas that are evolving in this multibillion-dollar industry, with technical presentations by many of the world's leading communications experts, designed for buyers and specifiers of communications products.

Topics to be covered include portable/mobile communications, enabling component technologies, wireless data communications, DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive , wireless LAN/WAN LAN/WAN Local Area Network/Wide Area Network , satellite communication, software, navigation technology/GPS and broadcasting/receiving. All Applications Conference sessions are free of charge to registered Wescon/95 attendees.

Wescon/95 Technical Conference Chairman, Dr. Thomas Magill of Stanford Telecom, acknowledged, "The conference's emphasis on communications technology will prove of great benefit to component, semiconductor and digital signal processor A digital signal processor (DSP) is a specialized microprocessor designed specifically for digital signal processing, generally in real-time computing.
