Apple Computer licenses brand for worldwide use in connection with cyber-based ''Apple Cafes''; first site to open in Los Angeles in late 1997.


LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13, 1996--Apple Computer Inc. named Mega Bytes International BVI a licensee of its trademark chartered with developing cyber-based theme restaurants bearing the imprimatur ``Apple Cafe,'' coupled with the Apple logo worldwide.

The first site is scheduled to open in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  in late 1997.

The announcement was made by Satjiv Chahil, senior vice president, worldwide corporate marketing, Apple Computer, at a private reception at the Museum of Television and Radio Museum of Television and Radio, American museum that chronicles the evolution of radio and television; opened in New York City as the Museum of Broadcasting in 1976. It is in effect the first public library devoted to the electronic media. .

``Technology is rapidly becoming an even more integral part of our lives with the advent of multimedia and the Internet. Other popular phenomena are theme/experience restaurants,'' said Chahil.

``It is our intention to leverage the most unique aspects of Apple in creating an environment where people in all walks of life and levels of computer literacy Understanding computers and related systems. Apple Cafes plan to feature an eclectic sampling of menus from around the world reflective of the Cupertino, Calif.-based company's health consciousness and international stature.

Private, membership-only VIP rooms are planned at Apple Cafes in key locations and a private reception area and high-technology conference room is expected to be available as part of the VIP area.

A percentage of membership fees is planned to be donated to the Artists Rights Foundation, a nonprofit organization Nonprofit Organization
