Apple's Leading Graphics Technology To Be Delivered to Users through Third-Party Applications for Fast, Wide-Spread Adoption.

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 7, 1996--PaceWorks Inc., developers of Dancer, a new animation tool, and other developers leveraging off Apple's industry-leading graphics technology jointly announced today that Apple has released to them the key components of its graphics engine as a dynamically loading shared library.

The library brings users powerful vector-graphics capabilities, sophisticated line layout and advanced color manipulation for superior imaging and animation.

Now users of PaceWorks' Dancer, a powerful animation tool slated to ship by year's end, do not have to install Apple's QuickDraw* GX as a Macintosh OS extension to acquire the most popular functionality of GX that this and other applications harness.

PaceWorks and other GX developers intend to immediately incorporate Apple's graphics library into their applications. In this framework, when a user opens the application, the graphics library seamlessly loads as well, and when a user quits quits

out of the application, the graphics library automatically shuts down, leaving a user's system unchanged. Font libraries and print set-up are not altered.

"We are thrilled that the graphics component of QuickDraw GX QuickDraw GX was a replacement for the QuickDraw (QD) 2D graphics engine and Printing Manager inside the "classic" Mac OS. Although GX was based on the same general geometry and dimensions of the original QD engine, the underlying drawing platform became a resolution-independent  is now widely accessible to all Mac users," said Phac Le Tuan, PaceWorks vice president of engineering. "Imagine providing a four-course gourmet dinner, but making people eat all or nothing. Now we're saying, `Just eat what you want.'"

"The release of the GX library is critical to delivering Electrifier, our powerful Internet playback solution, on which we are collaborating with PaceWorks," said Mihail Lari, president of Lari Software.

For users with QuickDraw GX already installed, or those who want the full functionality of GX and choose to install it as a system extension, the dynamically loading library contained in an application would be overridden by the GX system extension.
