Appeal to keep children 'safe' CAMPAIGN: Police urge parents to know whereabouts of kids.

Staffordshire Police Staffordshire Police is the Home Office police force responsible for policing Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent in the West Midlands of England. It is made up of four territorial Divisions; Stoke-on-Trent, North Staffs., Chase and Trent Valley.  has teamed up with Staffordshire Staffordshire (stăf`ərdshĭr), county (1991 pop. 1,020,300), 1,157 sq mi (2,997 sq km), W central England. The county seat is Stafford. The terrain is gently undulating except for a district of rugged moorlands in the north.  Youth Service and other agencies to promote the "where is your child tonight?" project in Lichfield Lichfield, town (1991 pop. 25,408) and district, Staffordshire, W central England. Lichfield is a market town with light industries, famous for its three-spired cathedral and its close associations with Dr. Samuel Johnson, who was born there in 1709. .

The initiative is designed to raise awareness among young people about the responsibility they have for their own safety.

It also encourages parents to take responsibility for their youngsters, highlighting the potential dangers unsupervised children could be involved in.

A similar project which was piloted last year in Burntwood proved to be a great success.

Maggie Huckfield, senior youth worker for Lichfield District Youth Service, said: "This is a really important initiative as we want young people to realise that they need to be responsible for their own safety.

"We really believe the position of young people in the Lichfield community is valuable.

"By engaging them in activities which offer them something to do in a safe environment this will result in a more positive image of young people in the area."

The scheme has been promoted via secondary schools, local supermarkets and businesses throughout Lichfield district. Banners and posters have been positioned around Lichfield.

, said: "This initiative is intended to encourage parents to be more aware of what their youngsters could be involved in when not under their supervision and to encourage them to take a little more responsibility to ensure the safety of their children.

"The simplest way that parents can help is by asking their children where they are, what they are up to and who are they going to be with."
