Appeal after armed raiders strike at pub; POLICE ASK WITNESSES TO COME FORWARD.Byline: By KATY SIMPSON TWO masked men threatened pub staff with a gun and a stick in an armed raid. They burst into the Foxhunters Pub, on Preston North Road, Whitley Bay Whitley Bay, town (1991 pop. 36,040), North Tyneside metropolitan district, NE England, on the North Sea. Formerly the urban district of Whitley and Monkseaton, Whitley Bay was chartered as a municipal borough in 1954. , at around 11.40pm yesterday. It is believed one man was armed with a small handgun and the other had a large stick. They stole an amount of cash and then left the pub. Police say the members of staff were shocked but otherwise unhurt. Officers are now appealing for witnesses to the incident. Today people living nearby told of their horror at a gun being used to threaten staff at their local pub. Neighbour Derek Watson Derek Watson was the dean of Salisbury in the Church of England to his retirement in 2002. He is now Preacher of Lincoln's Inn. He is married to Sheila Watson and they are both keen cyclists. , 50, said: "It doesn't worry me specifically because this kind of thing happens all the time round here." A mum-of-five, also from Chiltern Road, who did not wish to be named, said: "I think it is expected these days. "There are so many hand guns available now.
