) today announced it helped over 2,000 families, which represents approximately 6,000 people, enjoy a better thanksgiving holiday through its third annual "Thanksgiving Food Certificate" giveaway of $70,000 for families to add to their meal shopping funds.

The funds will come in the form of $30 vouchers redeemable at three grocers located within the Woodlawn Community. The vouchers will be distributed by the Department of Human Services (DHS DHS Department of Homeland Security (USA)

 for the vouchers is through a variety of other organizations, including: six area schools - Fiske Elementary, McCosh Upper Grade, McCosh Primary, Carnegie Elementary, Wadsworth Elementary and Dumas Elementary; six senior centers - Park Shore East, Trinity Oaks, Kenwood Resident Senior and Handicapped Housing, Grove Parc Plaza Housing Development, Edwin C. Berry Manor and three other CHA Senior Housing Developments; Woodlawn Mental Health Center; Alderman Arenda Troutman's Office; and the DHS Park Manor Office.

Brazier is the pastor of the Apostolic Church of God in the Chicago neighborhood of Woodlawn. He is also a bishop and a prominent civic leader. He is a founder of The Woodlawn Organization, which was prominent in Chicago's civil rights movement in the 1960s and , Pastor of Apostolic Church of God.

Since 1999, ACOG and the DHS have been working together in identifying and distributing vouchers to needy families, primarily in the Woodlawn community. People receiving vouchers at the DHS Woodlawn office location are invited in and seated during the processing of the voucher distribution, with older and physically-challenged people seated in a reserved section and expedited in receiving their vouchers.

In addition to the volunteers on hand, appropriate agencies are on hand to administer screening for various health care concerns, distribute information on health related issues, provide on-site voter registration Voter registration is the requirement in some democracies for citizens to check in with some central registry before being allowed to vote in elections. An effort to get people to register is known as a voter registration drive. Centralized/compulsory vs.  and take applications to assist low-income persons with heating bills and weatherization.

The Thanksgiving Food Certificate giveaway is part of ACOG's Project Giving campaign that includes a new clothing and toy drive for needy kids in Chicago from Thursday, November 15 through Saturday, November 17at the Southside YMCA YMCA
