Instead all four gospels show her as the primary witness to the most central events of the Christian faith. Along with Joanna, Susanna, and other women, Mary of Magdala journeyed around Galilee Galilee (găl`ĭlē), region, N Israel, roughly the portion north of the plain of Esdraelon. Galilee was the chief scene of the ministry of Jesus. with Jesus and the other disciples. As knowledge of Jesus' many women friends faded from historical memory, the stories associated with them were combined. In its second year, the Saint Mary of Magdala celebrations grew from about 25 events to its present number. About half took place in Catholic parishes and worship centers, another 30 or so in small faith communities, and three in Protestant congregations. Co-sponsoring the events were the FutureChurch and Call To Action Catholic reform organizations. "Women Christians are now able to retrieve a sense of their own history," said Sister Christine Schenk, C.S.J., executive director of FutureChurch.
