Apology for hero Turing; SCIENCE.


A COMPUTER genius who helped defeat Hitler finally received an apology from the Government last night for "horrifying" treatment.

Alan Turing (person) Alan Turing - Alan M. Turing, 1912-06-22/3? - 1954-06-07. A British mathematician, inventor of the Turing Machine. Turing also proposed the Turing test. Turing's work was fundamental in the theoretical foundations of computer science.  cracked Nazi codes and became known as the father of computer science, developing the Turing machine Turing machine, a mathematical model of a device that computes via a series of discrete steps and is not limited in use by a fixed maximum amount of data storage.  and Turing test for thinking machines.

He killed himself aged 41 in 1954 after he was hounded out of science and forced to inject female hormones because of his homosexuality.

Gordon Brown said: "We are all deeply sorry for what happened to him."
