Apology for girl's death.

A teenager questioned by police after schoolgirl Aimee Wellock's death has reportedly apologised to the 15-year-old's devastated family and admitted the youngster was battered.

But Claire Carey, 18, has told a newspaper that the fight before Aimee died was not vicious, although it had got out of hand after an argument.

The tragic schoolgirl suffered from a serious medical condition, and was discovered unconscious in a field just yards from her home in the Allerton area of Bradford on Tuesday evening.

Four youngsters were questioned ( a boy, 15, and three teenaged girls. They were bailed on Thursday, pending further inquiries and medical test results, West Yorkshire Police said.

According to the newspaper, Ms Carey was one of the four teenagers interviewed by police.

She claimed to have been drinking strong lager before the fight, adding: "We have battered her ( but we did not know something was wrong with her heart. But I did not go near her ( I hit the blonde one.

"It was not a vicious fight at all. There wasn't anything to it. It was pathetic. I blame it on us just being stupid ( that's all."

She denied demanding cigarettes, but said her group got a bit fresh with Aimee and her friends after bumping into them.

And she went on: "I am really sorry for the family. I've been crying ever since and I can't sleep for thinking about it. I wish I had never gone over there."

Police said Aimee was involved in an altercation between two groups of youths in a field adjacent to Canford Drive, where she was with friends at around 8.20pm on Tuesday.

A few minutes later she walked a short distance and collapsed unconscious. She was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary, but was dead on arrival. Further tests have been ordered and police are also exploring the possibility that she was suffering from a heart problem after a post-mortem examination showed a serious medical condition.
