) today announced the appointment of Dr. Jorge Klor de Alva to the Executive Committee of Apollo Group Apollo Group, Inc. NASDAQ: APOL is an S&P 500 corporation based in Phoenix, Arizona. Apollo Group, Inc., through its subsidiaries, provides higher education to working adults. , Inc. Dr. Klor de Alva, who was appointed Vice President of Business Development in July 1996, has been a director of the Company since 1991 and is currently a member of the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors. The Executive Committee of Apollo currently consists of seven members represented by the presidents of the major subsidiaries, the CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  and CFO See Chief Financial Officer.  of Apollo, and certain key executives.

Apollo Group, Inc. also announced that John D. Murphy, Senior Vice President and Director of Apollo, plans to retire as of August 31, 1997. Mr. Murphy has resigned from his position as Senior Vice President and Director; however, he will continue to work for Apollo on several projects prior to his retirement date. Mr. Murphy has been with the Company in various positions since 1976, most recently working on various business development efforts.
