QRX provides high efficiency AC to DC power conversion meeting the performance and size requirements of audio applications such as home theater An audio/video entertainment center that has a large-screen TV and hi-fi system with three speakers in the front (left, right and center) and left and right speakers in the rear. Starting in the early 1990s, video inputs were added to stereo receivers and preamplifiers.  systems. The company has integrated the QRX technology into a custom module to support SMPS designs from 150 watts to over 1000 watts making it the perfect solution to be used with Apogee's line of DDX DDx

(R) amplifier products or other applications requiring high quality power conversion.

The audio amplifier market is dominated by six channel home theater systems that provide up to 150 watts of audio power per channel. Current systems are bulky because they use large transformers to convert AC power at the outlet into DC power required to operate the audio amplifiers. In order to meet consumer demand for smaller products, manufacturers are transitioning from large transformer based power supply designs to smaller, lighter, high efficiency SMPS designs. Existing SMPS solutions are designed to supply a constant power output and as a result they perform poorly in audio applications where the power demand can vary from zero to full output almost instantaneously. For example, current solutions can lose up to 30% of the output power during dynamic audio passages, such as the reproduction of a kettledrum kettledrum, in music, percussion instrument consisting of a hemispherical metal vessel over which a membrane is stretched, played with soft-headed wooden drumsticks.  or an explosion. Apogee's QRX technology solves this dynamic output problem using a patent pending, quasi-resonant (QR) approach that provides up to 60 times better control of the power output, fully restoring the audio experience.

"We developed QRX technology to meet our customer's demands for a compact, reliable, high quality audio power supply," said David Meyers, Apogee Chief Operating Officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

The officer of a firm responsible for day-to-day management, usually the president or an executive vice-president.
. "Apogee will offer this technology in an integrated module along with SMPS reference designs. Customers will have their choice of building their own supplies or purchasing a complete supply from our manufacturing partner. Apogee plans to release QRX based power supply modules samples in July and two SMPS reference designs in September. The company also plans to further develop QRX technology to increase the market potential beyond consumer electronics applications."

The first QRX SMPS reference designs will support the company's 6x50 watt and 6x100 watt DDX amplifiers solutions by providing 180 and 350 watts of continuous and 250 and 600 watts of peak power respectively. The main audio supply will operate at over 90% efficiency with less than 0.5% composite line/load regulation and less than 500 mV of ripple. The designs will support worldwide line voltages of 90-132 VAC (Volts Alternating Current) See volt and AC.  or 180-264 VAC and include over-current, over-voltage and short circuit protection. Apogee can develop custom SMPS designs using the QRX module to provide over 1000 watts of high quality DC power.
