The expansion of Apogee's online course library (www.study-center.com) mirrors the current industry trend where more than 25 percent of all training is now delivered online, according to according to

Apogee also operates customized training portals for such leading utility associations as the American Public Power Association, Southeastern Electric Exchange, Electric Council of the Northeast, Northwest Public Power Association and Georgia Electric Membership Corporation.

"Our course library has evolved as our clients' needs have evolved," said Randy Edwards, director of Apogee's eLearning division. He noted that the company first pioneered eLearning for energy companies 10 years ago when it launched a full library of utility-specific, energy-related courses in CD format.

Apogee now operates a Web-based portal and has expanded its energy course roster to include organizational development courses such as new employee orientations, diversity awareness and effective business communications. This latest course expansion adds a broad spectrum of short, modular training courses covering safety and health topics ranging from electrical safety, emergency response and grounding to office ergonomics ergonomics, the engineering science concerned with the physical and psychological relationship between machines and the people who use them. The ergonomicist takes an empirical approach to the study of human-machine interactions.  and indoor air quality Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) deals with the content of interior air that could affect health and comfort of building occupants. The IAQ may be compromised by microbial contaminants (mold, bacteria), chemicals (such as carbon monoxide, radon), allergens, or any mass or energy stressor .

"We can now help our clients meet their core safety training needs -- faster and more cost effectively using the Web," said Edwards. "We've seen the adoption rate of eLearning accelerate as companies realize tangible economic benefits and organizational improvements." He cited industry studies that show eLearning can reduce training time by 60 percent or more, increase retention rates by well over 100 percent and eliminate travel time and expenses altogether.
