Apogee Demonstrates Three Advanced Java(TM) Runtime Environments Based on IBM's Java Technologies at ESC West.CAMPBELL, Calif. -- Apogee Software is proud to demonstrate three of its latest Aphelion aphelion (əfē`lēən, ăp'hē`–), point farthest from the sun in the orbit of a body about the sun. See apsis. (TM) Java Runtime Environments (JREs), created by Apogee for IBM from IBM's J2ME-compatible WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environments (WEMEs) Java technologies, in Wind River's and IBM's booths at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Jose April 4 through 6. The first JRE targeted at the VxWorks/x86 platform includes the ports of: (i) IBM's J2ME-compatible J9VM, Foundation Class Library, Personal Class Library, and JIT compiler; and (ii) Apogee's SWT-based support for advanced Java graphics, which works with Wind River's WindML graphics library. The second JRE targeted at the VxWorks/IXP465 platform includes the ports of: (i) IBM's J2ME-compatible J9VM, Foundation Class Library, and JIT compiler; and (ii) IBM's WebSphere RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) A data collection technology that uses electronic tags for storing data. The tag, also known as an "electronic label," "transponder" or "code plate," is made up of an RFID chip attached to an antenna. Device Infrastructure (WRDI WRDI WebSphere RFID Device Infrastructure WRDI Write Disable ), which allows a device having this JRE running on it to be used as an RFID "edge server" (a device capable of collecting and processing the radio signals sent by RFID "chips" placed, for example, on various parts in a warehouse). The third JRE targeted at the RedHatLinux/x86 platform includes the ports of: (i) IBM's J2ME-compatible J9VM enhanced to be compatible with the Real-time Specification for Java The Real-Time Specification for Java (RTSJ) is a set of interfaces and behavioral specifications that allow for real-time programming in the Java programming language. RTSJ 1. (TM) (RTSJ RTSJ Real-Time Specification for Java ); (ii) IBM's Foundation Class Library; and (iii) Apogee-created RTSJ Class Library. This JRE has been officially certified by IBM as compliant with the latest specification of RTSJ and with the JCP CDC See Control Data, century date change and Back Orifice. CDC - Control Data Corporation J2ME (Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition) A version of Java 2 for cellphones, PDAs and consumer appliances. J2ME uses the K Virtual Machine (KVM), a specialized Java interpreter for devices with limited memory. platform, which means that it passes all tests in the latest RTSJ TCK test suite and in the JCP J2ME TCK test suites for the CDC VM and Foundation Profile. Presently, there is no other commercially available JRE that has been officially certified as compliant with RTSJ and CDC J2ME platform.
